MusiCares Foundation
The music industry has evolved into an amazing worldwide network of individuals and multinational record companies grossing over 50 billion dollars a year. Yet, tragically, the very people whose creativity and ingenuity are responsible for this billion dollar business have few places to turn in troubled times. The devastating health and financial hardships faced by too many musical giants prompted the establishment of the MusiCares Foundation by the Recording Academy in 1989.Through its Emergency Financial Assistance Program, MusiCares is dedicated to providing critical and immediate assistance to music people in need, and to treating each case with dignity and confidentiality. Since its inception, MusiCares has aided individuals confronted by a wide range of personal hardships and crises.Through the Addiction Recovery Program, MusiCares has become a leading force in the battle to identify, educate and address the problem of addiction in the music industry. To provide the highest level of service, MusiCares continues to grow its staff, human service programs and information and outreach efforts.
For the future, MusiCares’ focus will include the development of Low Income Housing and an Assisted Living Facility for music people, as well as Counseling and Health Care Centers, music therapy, hearing impairment, access to health care, domestic violence, homelessness and promoting wellness in society as a whole.
MusiCares continues to be a strong, effective and influential voice in focusing the attention and resources of the industry and society on issues that affect the health and welfare of music people throughout our country.
