GUINNESS PINBALL CHAMP MARTIN LOOKS TO ECLIPSE OWN MARK

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Current Guinness Book of World Recrods pinball endurance champion Mandi Martin, longtime member of the board of governors of the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, will attempt to break her still-standing 505-hour record set in 1979 with a 555-hour pinball marathon extravaganza scheduled for March 5-28, 2000.

Dubbed “Mandi Martin’s MillenniuM Pinball Marathon” and timed to coincide with the record holder’s 55th birthday, the 23-day event will benefit the Recording Academy’s renowned MusiCares Foundation, established in 1969 to focus industry attention and resources on the health, human services and welfare issues of all music people. Other charities benefiting from Mandi’s Marathon will be Gilda’s Club, America’s Breast Cancer Ride, and Haven Hills.

With numerous appearances by celebrity and industry well-wishers expected (as has occurred during the producer/songwriters’s two previous forays into the Guinness books, including Martin’s 1978 original run of 140 hrs. 32 min.), the benefit marathon will be carried live over the Internet.

“MusiCares reached out to me four years ago when my husband Jerry Fox suddenly passed away,” explained Martin. “This is just my way of expressing my appreciation.”
