The sun was starting to set as the first day of daylight savings time was heading into evening. Nick and Pep (Nick’s very cool roommate) arrived a little early to help me re-set some of my hard-to-reach clocks in the house, change a very hard-to-replace light bulb and get ready for Nick’s very first session rehearsal with Voyce McGinley, III and Paul Marshall. Nick has been hard at work for several weeks, refining his songs before we go into the studio. The time had finally come to test them out with live musicians!!! Yea!!!
I headed out for a few minutes with Pep to Trader Joe’s to pick up a treat for when the rehearsal was all over and Pep, being the electrical genius he is, offered to replace the light dimmer in my family room that had recently stopped dimming! So he dropped me at T.J’s and drove around to the other side of the mall to Home Depot to find the perfect replacement dimmer.
When Pep and I returned from our shopping excursion, Voyce had already arrived with his wife Nancy and was all set up and ready to go. It wasn’t long after that, Paul Marshall arrived and, within minutes, music was in the air! And, before the guys were done working out the first tune, Pep had replaced my dimmer! Talk about multi-tasking!!!

Our biggest concern for the first rehearsal was to make sure the charts were right and to find the best tempos and grooves for each of the six songs we will be recording. And, of course, this was the first time for this configuration of musicians and so this was their bonding time! Needless to say, it went great!

About half-way through the evening, Papa John’s delivered and everyone’s energy was replenished for the last three songs!

I couldn’t be happier with the way the night went. I think everyone felt the same way. We ended it all with some great minature cheese cakes from T.J.’s and the cars and truck were loaded and the first night of daylight savings time had come to an end!
What a time we had at the Taxi Road Rally in Hollywood this past week! Both Amy and Nick got to perform, and the response was fantastic!
Check out the photos from our weekend here.

An endurance marathon is such a unique experience…from my end, I tested the limits of how my body and mind would react to little and mostly no sleep for days…even weeks…on end and, yet doing something that I truly enjoyed and most importantly raising the consciousness level and funds for a worthwhile cause.
From the crew’s perspective, I suppose that most of them considered me to be a little crazy (OK, OK…a lot crazy!)…but, I’ve been involved in the music business for almost 40 years…what do you call that? They had to agree to support me, no matter what shape I was in…their job was to get me through it all. Some had it easier than others…some just came and fed me when I was hungry and marked my scores down and kept track of the time, while others held my head up as I used every last ounce of strength left inside me to flip the flipper one more time and kept my spirits up when they were scraping the bottom of the barrel. But WE did it! They rallied by my side and helped me do something in the world that nobody else had ever done…THREE TIMES! They are my heroes!
What I particularly loved about this event is that it created a sense of community between everyone involved… There are crew members who met each other for the first time back in ‘78 & ‘79 who are still friends today… I absolutely love it when that stuff happens! And to have some of those crew members back again in 2000, after 20 years, still believing in me and my dreams. I’m a lucky girl!
The bottom line is that I couldn’t have done it without the help of everyone involved… and that makes this even more special to me. And I get to bring attention to some wonderful charities who do great work… which gives me the purpose to successfully complete my mission.
My loving and supportive husband, Jerry, was so proud of my first two records… I’m sure he was smiling down from Heaven as I set my third pinball marathon world record in 2000… and I know he must have had a talk with God over this… I feel truly blessed to have enough good health to be able to this more than 20 years after the first couple of times. This was one heck of a 55th birthday party! Thank you Lord for giving me the strength… and thanks for keeping an eye out for my angel.
Perhaps I will give others the hope and belief in themselves they need to follow their hearts and make their dreams come true as well. I’m always available to pull some crew time…
